personal life

a dying friend

I learned today that a teacher who retired last year (after being diagnosed with colon cancer) has been placed in hospice care at his home. We were in the same department along with his wife and daughter. We were a little dysfunctional family for a few years, but a family none the less. He was a great coach and really connected with the kids. They love him for his gentle, protective nature. He wasn’t a great teacher but he made up for it in his relationships with the kids.
The waiting game will be difficult for everyone. But I’m trying to keep busy, picking up tasks for his daughter who is now my department head. She is an emotional mess and I just want to take away as much stress as possible.
I didn’t think that I would have to go to another funeral so soon…
