WOW 1.15 – “hard body” dvd review

{note: skinny meg is taking a well-deserved break.  that girl has been rocking her way though her pregnancy and inspiring us all, but now it’s time for some maternity leave from WOW for her.  but i’m just going to try to keep up with my own WOW posts to keep myself accountable and reflective on how i’m doing!}

i’ve been a little frustrated lately with my holiday weight gain and getting back on track with NO results so far.  so i recently bought this jillian michaels workout dvd.  i figured i deserved a good ass-kicking.  it’s been out for several months, but i didn’t buy it until recently.  i had heard online that it was pretty tough so i was excited/terrified to try it out.

both workouts have six circuits that are a combination of cardio and strength.  you all six circuits and then repeat them all once. level 1 is easier.  and by easier, i mean still really effing challenging.  it’s 45 minutes long.  level 2 is … well, i cursed my way through that one.  and it’s actually a little longer at about 50 minutes.  i had to stop it three times for 30 seconds or so because i was breathing too hard to do anything.  but i eventually finished it!

you get your classic jillian catch phrases and stupid jokes.  that’s why we love her, right?  the only thing that really bugged me was the stupid cuts to the dj.  like i give a crap about seeing what the dj is jamming out on over there while the women and me are sweating our asses off and struggling to breathe!  it wasn’t distracting enough to keep me from doing the workout though.

i paused it briefly toward the end of the level 1 workout the first time i did this dvd. and this beauty of a picture occurred. will you just look at the faces of those two girls in the background? priceless. (by the way, that’s exactly how i felt at that moment too.)

this dvd is not one that you grab for a “i feel like doing a good workout today” workout.  it’s a “i feel like an absolute ass-kicking today” workout.  if you’re up for it, try it out!  i will say that it’s not for beginners.  it’s harder than “30 day shred” and maybe even harder than “ripped in 30”.  there are modifications, but they’re minimal.  i’m not going to sugar coat it.  the workouts are tough.  but i like them.  i’ll definitely keep doing the dvd.  bottom line…it’s going in the rotation!
