developing a personal mantra

i’ve been reading “slim for life” by jillian micheals.  i’m loving it so far.  i’m about halfway through.

i ran across this section the other day while reading about personal mantras:

i thought about it for a few days.  i wasn’t sure it was really for me.  and i couldn’t think of anything off the top of my head. i decided to just google “personal mantras” and see if anything caught my eye.  i came across a list from women’s health magazine of quotes from olympians.

this quote struck me right way:

“‘Breathe, believe, and battle.’ My former coach, Troy Tanner, told us that before each match. Breathe—be in the moment. Believe—have faith that you can rise above it. Battle—you gotta be prepared to go for as long as it takes.”

i love that – breathe, believe, and battle.  it’s short and easy to remember.  i’ve been telling it to myself whenever i am facing a physical or personal challenge.  i put it on post-its around my apartment to remind myself.  i might change my mantra in the future, but i’ve really connected to this one.
