WOW 3.12 – “shed & shred” dvd review

workout wednesday with tattooedteacherintexas and hosted by skinnymeg!

my spring break plan is going surprisingly well.  i’ve done two workouts a day (each at least 35 minutes long).  the only day that i skipped was when i got a terrible sunburn from a four hour hike earlier that morning.  i’m going to give myself a pass on that one.  other than that, i’ve been right on point with my food and fitness.  i needed this push, and i’m glad i’m staying motivated through it.

one of the things that keeps me on track is different workouts.  i crave variety.  i have seen this workout dvd for awhile now, but i hadn’t really thought of looking into it until recently.  i just thought it was another cardio/strength circuit workout from jillian.  but turns out, it’s not!  a friend of mine bought it and told me about it.  she said she loved it because it was a fusion workout, which happens to be one of my favorite kinds of workouts.  so quickly after that conversation, i ordered it.

so there are two levels.  the workouts are meant to be done alone or together as one.    level one is about 42 minutes  with the warmup and cool down.  the actual workout is 28 minutes long and includes some really unique exercises.  it is an interesting blend of kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, agility, and weight training.  i really enjoy the cool down.  it’s a good stretch, and there’s some relaxation built into the end.

level two is 52 minutes with the same warmup and cool down.  the workout in the middle is 38 minutes.  it’s totally challenging but a great workout.  be warned though…it is super hard.  most of the moves are done in some version of plank.  if you choose to do both level one and two together (which jillian recommends to try), the entire workout is about 80 minutes.  i haven’t tried that yet because the thought of it makes my entire body hurt, but i might someday!

i would recommend this workout to anyone who wants/needs a push.  but it is different, which means some people won’t like it.  the moves require balance, flexibility, and strength.  but if you want to mix it up, try this one out!

i got another jillian dvd in the mail with this one.  i’m trying it today, and i’ll have a review on it up soon!

{note: skinny meg is taking a well-deserved break.  that girl rocked her way though her pregnancy and inspired us all.  she is now home with her new baby.  i’m excited for her to be back at it, but it’s time for some maternity leave from WOW for her.  still, i’m just going to try to keep up with my own WOW posts to keep myself accountable and reflective on how i’m doing!}
