1.16 | high five for friday!

i started my 8 week workout program from fitness blender this week.  so far so good!  it was only $10 and worth every penny from my limited experience.  it’s challenging, but i like that part of it.  i’m determined to finish this thing.  my food has been on point 80/20 healthy/treat.   i’m all in!

(and thank goodness for social media.  i got to interact with two of my favorite trainers this week.  i got a response to a question/comment from kelli from fitness blender on instagram and some encouragement from jessica smith on youtube, which is awesome!)

as it worked out, i had two days off this week.  that led to an extremely easy week at school.  yeah, i had to hustle on the days that i was there, but it was kind of nice to run errands in the middle of the day and wake up late.  AND monday is a holiday so there’s that. 🙂

one of my days off was for jury duty.  i was not excited to go, but once i got there, i was very interested.  i’ve always wanted to serve on a jury just for the experience.  the case was basically testing a new assault law in Texas so it would have been new and different. (the law requires that if a person assaults a family member for the second time, he/she is automatically charged with a felony if you’re wondering.)  i was there for six hours until they cut me in the final round.  still, it was a good experience.

it’s one of my 2015 goals to try something new each week.  so this week was the whole foods detox salad.  talk about yum.  it’s super healthy, a little sweet, and crunchy.  you can eat a ton of it too because it’s basically veggies, nuts, and dried fruit.  HERE is the recipe.  i substituted golden raisins for the regular ones because i like the flavor better.

my favorite healthy meal of the week
my favorite meal of the week: whole foods detox salad, avocado with some spices, pineapple, organic roasted chicken breast.

on one of my days off, i went to see the movie “selma”.  i’ve been wanting to see it and decided to treat myself to a movie date.  the movie was amazing.  i love how it told the story truthfully and from all sides.  it’s such an important event that we often forget even happened.

  1. I got called in for jury duty a few years ago and I was really interested. Unfortunately I didn’t get selected, because the trial would have taken at least 2 weeks and I had to go back to school. I hope I can do it one day 🙂

  2. I found your blog from the Oh Hey It’s Friday Link up! I’m also a HS Social Studies teacher (Econ & WH). It’s nice to find another fellow teacher. Looking forward to following you blog 🙂

  3. HAHA So glad I’m not the only one that wouldn’t mind serving on a jury just for the experience and to see how it works. But just once… 🙂 And that quote – hahaha definitely laughing!! Thanks for linking up with H54F! Enjoy your extra long weekend (which I totally forgot all about, because when you’re home, you don’t notice these things!)

  4. MMM that salad looks great! Also that’s super interesting about your jury duty. Luckily you only had one day. I know friends who have had to be off work for weeks!
