the NEW 2020-21 erin condren life planner!

this is my seventh erin condren life planner!  i have been using the ECLP in the neutral vertical format for the past few years.  it works really well for not only day-to-day sticker planning but for memory planning too.

{check out @tattooedteacherplans on instagram and my youtube channel for more updates, hauls, & plan with me videos!}

so this year, i decided to go with a gold coil instead of black for my everyday planner and a black one for my memory planner, which i will order after my review goes up.  choosing a format was difficult this year because the options are just SO good.

this review is very long, but oh so thorough!   i’ve been a loyal EC customer and was so happy they sent me this package, but please know that i’m always honest in all my reviews.  i’ve included my review video below where i walk-through the new planner and accessories, and i give my thoughts but also some detailed notes below.  if there are any notable changes, i have put “NEW” next to the topic.  (i will have another haul up soon after i order my memory planner and more!)

 ••• the good •••

NEW release dates – for EC insiders, it’s april 27-28, 2020.  for the general public, it’s april 29, 2020.  this helps the warehouse not get so overwhelmed.

NEW designs – for the past few years, the planners have come in colorful and neutral.  the main design this year is layers.  the colorful is so pretty and tempted me for a minute. (i might get it for my memory planner!)  also, for the first time, there’s a second design option!  it is called flower power, and it is beautiful!  i might get it for my memory planner.

formats – last year, EC introduced the binder!  this year, both the coil and binder options are available.  the coil comes in three design options: neutral layers, colorful layers, and flower power.  the binder comes in three cover options: neutral layers, colorful layers, and champagne cloth.  the binder offers all

NEW layout options – there are four formats: vertical, horizontal, hourly, and DAILY!  the daily comes in two books because otherwise, it would be way too fat…not that i’m fat shaming.  i love a chunky planner! 🙂

paper quality – the paper is the same as the past few years.  it’s very thick, maybe too think for me.  it also has a texture to it, and I STILL wish it was a little smoother.  however, it is very good quality paper.  and it smells SO GOOD.

size options – it measures about 9 1/4″ (high) x 8 1/4″ (wide), which is perfect.  not too big, not too small.  there are also now two other options: small and large.  but these are only available as hardbound and in only the vertical and horizontal formats.  this year is also a first for a binder planner, but since i won’t be using it, i don’t really have an opinion on it except that the ring placement is super weird.

length options – you can choose an 18 month or 12 month.  you can also choose between july 2017-june 2018 OR january-december 2018 for the 12 month format.

removable laminated cover (coiled planner) – it’s sturdy and thick.  it’s not going anywhere.  if there are any issues with it, the EC company will replace it or give you credits.  there’s also a luxe option, but it’s permanent and i like the option to change.

cover customization – you can pick your cover and colors, classic or metallic.  the coiled planner covers are also removable so you could order another cover (for around $8-13 plus shipping) and put it on your planner whenever you feel the need.  the covers have a wet erase writing area inside the front and back covers.  for the binder, there are three cover options.

heavy spiral coil – it’s super duty, heavy, and will not bend.  it is the best.  they come in platinum, gold, rose gold, and black.  there is an extra charge for any coil that is not platinum.  it looks like the coil for the 18 month is a little bigger, but i’m not sure.\]

vellum overlay – every planner comes with a pretty vellum overlay at the front.  it matches your theme, colorful or neutral, in the new layers or flower power pattern.

ruler – the ruler was improved last year, and i loved it.  it’s much more flexible and yet sturdy?  hard to explain, but it’s great.

laminated tabs – they are durable and are not going anywhere.  with the thicker paper, they’re even more sturdy.  as mentioned before, if you get the colorful, you will get colored tabs.  if you get the neutral, the tabs are charcoal gray.

goal page – the goal page has big boxes for you to do whatever you want with.  i haven’t decided what i’m going to use them for but i’ll come up with something!  it has a little more color this year!

NEW 2 page monthly view – everything is the same as last year, BUT the tab is back on the monthly page!

NEW monthly notes pages and dashboard – the tab has moved back to the monthly page!  woohoo! the monthly dashboard (the organized notes page) is the same as last year but with some improvements.  it’s organized with a few boxes, but this year they’re all blank so you can customize the topics.  there is still a lined page across from the monthly quote page and now another one across from the dashboard (instead of dot grid).

NEW 2 page weekly view – the weekly format has been improved.  after the changes and subsequent complaints, they have changed it for the better.  it is SO much better.

NEW notes section – who doesn’t need a few notes pages?  there are some lined and NO coloring pages this time.

keep in touch section – there’s one page at the back of the notes section for contacts. i will probably use it for passwords or quickly jotting down a contact if you’re on the go.

next year at a glance page – for future planning.

NEW stickers – as always, there are stickers in the back.  some are foiled and scripted or pictures.  the foiled functional stickers are very versatile and pretty.

pocket –  the pocket is reinforced to deal with wear and tear better.  the pocket design corresponds to whether you choose colorful or neutral.

keepsake box – the box is not the best quality, to be honest, but it’s okay if you want to store your planner in it on a shelf.  it has a sticker to put the year or whatever else you want on the spine of the box.

NEW accessories – new this year are the snap-in sticky notes in new patterns, different colors of wet erase markers, clip in bookmarks in new patterns, another designer sticker book, and new dashboards.

CAN I SAY THE SMELL?? i just love it.  it smells like a sweet pastry.  so good! 🙂

••• the not-so-good •••

there’s really not that many this year!  and i fully admit that these are nit picky.

limited color scheme in neutral – last year, i thought i would get bored of the colors in the neutral.  i did.  however, i cover most of them up anyway, it’s no big deal.

super clean (but boring) font in the neutral weekly format – yes, it’s simple and goes with anything.  i think my complaint is that i miss the pretty script font from two planner years back.  that font is in a few current formats, but it’s just not where i want it to be.  again, no big deal.

the bars under the days of the week on the monthly page – again, this is so picky, but i wish it was a solid bar across or something else.  this is purely selfish too because I want to be able to better line up the big stickers i use from monthly kits.

monthly calendar on the weekly pages – i still don’t think this is necessary on every weekly page.  it takes up valuable sidebar space, but i can definitely cover it up much easier than the hexagon from last year’s planner.

rounded corners on weekly layout – same as last year…i don’t really like the shape of them, but those are easily covered up with sticker headers.

only lined notes pages – i’m glad they got rid of the coloring pages, but i wish the notes pages in the back were dot grid instead of lined.  it’s just personal preference.
